Lulu spent the first 18 years of her life in Penang, Malaysia, where she attended an Irish convent day school, the Light Street Convent and learned English as a young child. While she lived in a predominantly Chinese community, exposure to Islam and Indian cultures was inevitable and in retrospect, invaluable.

She left Malaysia after high school for college in the US, upon receiving a 4-year tuition, room and board scholarship arriving in the Chicago area without knowing anyone. After earning her BA and MS degrees, she moved to San Diego, married and eventually had 2 daughters. She had a varied and interesting career at Solar Turbines Inc. including opportunities to travel the world and unforgettable experiences principally in a “man’s world” of engineering and no-nonsense “oil men”. Lessons learned are for life.

Upon retirement, she was involved in many community organizations, lending her organizational skills to streamline and develop structure in non-profit organization. She has devoted much of her time to developing her piano skills, concerts, operas, and music groups.
