David Spence brings a professional background spanning technology, higher education, and a lifelong commitment to the performing arts. He earned his bachelor’s degree from UCLA in English with an emphasis in Dramatic Arts and was immersed early in live performance through his work as an usher at UCLA’s Royce Hall. His engagement with international performance traditions was further shaped through study at the University of Edinburgh and ongoing participation in the Edinburgh International and Fringe Festivals.

Professionally, David began his career supporting academic research initiatives before transitioning into business and technology roles, where he led complex data and systems integration projects for major financial institutions. Since 2007, he has worked for the San Diego Community College District, serving as a Student Services Analyst and leading district-wide initiatives to modernize and migrate more than 80 years of student records into enterprise and cloud-based systems.

A San Diego resident since 1994, David is a long-standing supporter of the region’s performing arts community. He has been an Old Globe subscriber since his arrival and maintains subscriptions to multiple local theater companies, regularly attending performances throughout San Diego County and nationally.
